How to Screenshot on Windows Laptop?
Method 1 – Using the Print Screen (PrtSc) Button
The most common way to take a screenshot on Windows is by using the PrtSc (Print Screen) button on your keyboard. To do this, follow these steps:
- Go to the screen you want to capture.
- Press the PrtSc button located in the top right of your keyboard in between F12 and Scroll Lock. It may be labeled as “PrtSc SysRq” or something similar depending on your specific laptop model and manufacturer.
- Open Microsoft Paint or any other image editing program of your choice (such as Adobe Photoshop).
- Press Ctrl + V to paste the screenshot into the program and save it as an image file (.jpg, .png etc).
- You can now share or print the image as needed!
Note: When taking screenshots this way it will copy everything that is currently displayed onto one single image file including all open windows, task bars etc., so make sure you only have what you want included in the screenshot displayed before pressing PrtSc!
Method 2 – Using Snipping Tool
For users who require more control over their screenshots, we recommend using Snipping Tool which comes preloaded with all versions of Windows 7, 8 & 10 laptops/PCs (you may also need to use Method 3 for some older versions). This tool allows you to select specific areas of your screen instead of copying everything visible at once like when using Method 1 above. To use Snipping Tool follow these steps:
1. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Snipping Tool OR search for “snipping tool” within Windows Search if it doesn’t appear automatically within All Programs folder.
2. Click New and select either Rectangular Snip, Window Snip, Full-screen snip or Free-form snip depending on which area/portion of your screen you wish to capture (see below).
3. Once selected drag and release over the desired area which will then appear as its own window within Snipping Tool program where you can further edit with color pens etc if required before saving as an image file (.jpg etc). 4 You can now share or print the image as needed!
